Peter graduated at the University of Cologne in Chemistry in 2000 (Dipl. Chem.) and obtained his PhD in 2002 in inorganic chemistry with Prof. Dr. Gerd Meyer (summa cum laude). His thesis on the “Affinity of Mercury to Nitrogen Donor Ligands” was awarded the Klaus-Liebrecht-Award in 2002. Peter joined then the groups of Prof. Koen Binnemans and Prof. Christiane Görller-Walrand at the K.U. Leuven, Belgium, for a European project on “Optical Amplification in Polymer Based Materials and Devices” until 2005, and worked then until 2008 on ionic liquids with Prof. Binnemans. He joined QUB as a lecturer on a RCUK fellowship in 2008 and became a Senior Lecturer in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry in 2016. In the same year, he also took on the role as the School’s Director of Internationalisation. He is also the co-founder and director of QUB spin-out company Green Lizard Technologies Ltd., which focusses on delivering technological solutions in the sustainable and clean energy sector.
